Why do some theists claim the afterlife they believe in is fact,even though there is no evidence supporting it?

Most theists have convinced themselves that what they believe is fact because they believe it. Belief has nothing to do with truth. It's pretty funny how they laugh or pity the people that believed in Thor and Zeus but don't see the parallels.
