I find the Willy Wonka movies disturbing. Does anyone actually enjoy them?

When the book debuted in the 1960s, people totally freaked out. Parents were outraged. There was a push to have the book banned from school libraries and possibly public libraries. Adults found it too dark, too bizarre...possibly sadistic and pandering. There was such a public uproar (much of it has been forgotten by me) that I wonder if there were events like "book burnings" and such.
