Managers & Supervisors: How painful is it to let someone go?
I've heard that supervisors hate letting someone go.I was let go from a job because although I did an excellent job my personality wasn't suited for the office he wanted to build. I also worked in an office for 14 years and a new company bought the company I worked for. I went three years later in the fourth wave of layoffs. The person who decided to let me go was not someone in the office--but from outside the office. The person who told me was someone else. He was also from outside the office and his job was to travel from office to office and fire people. He didn't seem to have any regrets to let me go. He said, "Shasta, I know I'm seen as Darth Vader in this office and I'm not going to fluff this out..." He didn't even thank me for 14 years of loyal service. He didn't seem to be in any pain to let me go--just wanted to get it done and get me out of the office. BTW I had to fire the person who did my yard work and my mother's yard work and that was not a pleasant experience.
