Why are Palestinian not considered egyptians or Jordanians?

Considering the territory was Jordanian and/or egyptians for years and years ... and citizens of those countries ... why are they not considered ex-patriots of those nations. Is there no movement or feelings in the populations that want to return to the nations they formerly belonged to? Further more, why wouldn't the West Bank Palestinians consider themselves distinct from those in the Gaza strip? Seems that even the term Palestinian is just an empty ghost term ...
